35 Years Supporting Seriously Ill Children

In 2026, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity marks 35 years of providing specialist support for seriously ill children and their families across the UK. This milestone is both a celebration of the extraordinary difference our Roald Dahl Nurses have made to thousands of seriously ill children and families, and a moment to look forward with ambition to expand our impact. Over three and a half decades, the charity has grown in reach, influence and credibility within the health system, and this anniversary year provides an important platform to accelerate our plans to establish more Roald Dahl Nurses, so that many more children who need it can receive the joined-up, compassionate and expert support they urgently need.

More Marvellous Nurses   It is hard for most of us to imagine what life is like for children with complex medical conditions. Their families are often searching for answers before they get a diagnosis, juggling endless hospital visits, managing medications and navigating treatments and tests. They are often under the care of multiple specialists, at hospitals across the UK, but they also face extensive needs beyond traditional healthcare. This reality makes navigating the healthcare system and coordinating their care complex and overwhelming for families.  This is where Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity plays a critical role. By establishing Roald Dahl Nurses, the charity helps bridge the gaps between hospitals, community teams and families, providing consistent, expert coordination for children with the most complex needs. Roald Dahl Nurses join families on this journey, helping them navigate the healthcare they need, and becoming an ally and advocate in hospital and at home. They help families feel more confident and less isolated. And by coordinating care and being a point of call throughout these crucial years of childhood, they reduce pressure on the NHS, too. We are so proud to have over 250 Roald Dahl Nurses working across the UK. These highly skilled, expert professionals are changing the experience of over 50,000 children and their families. However, too many children across the UK still don't have access to this support. In 2026, our mission is to establish more vital Roald Dahl Nurses across the country.
