Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity chosen as charity partner for the 2025 Nursing Times Awards

Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity has been chosen as the charity partner for the annual celebration of the best in nursing. Each year, the Nursing Times Awards shines a light on the brightest talent in the profession and recognises those making nursing innovative, patient-focused and inclusive. This represents the second time in recent years that Nursing Times has worked closely on an event with the charity, which was previously charity partner for the 2024 Nursing Times Workforce Awards. Roald Dahl Nurses – and there are currently around 150 caring for over 36,000 children at any one time – are specialist senior nurses who are experts in their field when they’re recruited and established in NHS trusts across the UK. And they care for some of the country’s most seriously ill children providing a consistent presence in a child’s life and helping their families navigate their complicated journey through the healthcare system. It is, Roald Dahl Nurses say, a bespoke, holistic, ‘make things happen’ kind of care, which allows them to co-ordinate and support families in appointments, hear and answer questions and concerns, chase up medications or test results, and advocate for the child as they move forward. They also benefit from peer support via the charity’s professional network and the chance to explore innovative ways to improve health outcomes and enhance the resilience and wellbeing of children and young people living with complex, lifelong conditions. As a result they can bring benefits such as reduced A&E visits, less calls to the hospital, and reduced hospital stays after treatment or surgery. The charity also provides support for families in other ways through their Marvellous Family Support Services which offer financial advice, emotional counselling and family workshops. Louise Griew, Chief Executive at Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, said: “Nursing Times is such a vital and resounding voice of nursing, the profession so close to our hearts and mission. So, we feel completely privileged to have been selected as the Nursing Times Awards’ charity partner in 2025. We know it will help us raise awareness of the work we do to improve the lives of children living with lifelong, complex medical conditions across the UK.” Steve Ford, Editor of Nursing Times, said: “I am delighted that Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity has agreed to be our charity partner for the 2025 Nursing Times Awards. I am a great fan of theirs and it’s great to be working with them again, this time on our biggest awards event of the year. By becoming our charity partner, I hope we can further raise awareness of the brilliant work of their nurses as well as hopefully bringing in some valuable donations as well.” The winners of the Nursing Times Awards will be announced at JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London on Wednesday 22 October. Categories cover a wide range of nursing fields and specialties from mental health to care in the community to inclusivity and sustainability in nursing and midwifery and more.
