Stagecoach pick up special passengers in London

Our marvellous Corporate Partner, Stagecoach, had some very special passengers to pick up in London yesterday as five extraordinary children and their families, along with Roald Dahl Nurses, were invited for tea and some festive fun and tree decorating with Her Majesty The Queen at Clarence House in London.

This is Stagecoach’s third year supporting Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, with Stagecoach picking up these special passengers from Clarence House and taking them on their onward journey at this special two day event in London. Stagecoach’s Chief Executive, Claire Miles, was also invited to join in the fun at Clarence House. "Families and young people are an important part of our Stagecoach community and the impact Roald Dahl Nurses have is nothing short of inspiring,” said Claire Miles. “Our partnership with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity reflects our commitment to give back and help create a more inclusive and supportive society. We also know these nurses do amazing behind-the-scenes work that makes a difference to so many young people and their families.” "The Roald Dahl Nurses I've met today are amazing and their expertise, kindness and support are nothing short of inspiring. Each Roald Dahl Nurse helps transforms thousands of children's lives and provide essential support to their family’s day in and day out. To have the chance to play our part in celebrating this special event is wonderful." Louise Griew, Chief Executive of Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity told us she couldn't be more delighted to have Claire join the celebrations today. "We couldn't do the work we do without the support of partners like Stagecoach. The way the company has engaged with what we do, and grown their support, has moved and motivated us and we are very excited about the difference it will make." Her Majesty The Queen is the Royal Patron of Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity which has so far raised funds to see over 200 Roald Dahl Nurse Specialists in post in NHS Trusts across the UK. They support over 40,000 parents and carers whose child has a serious and sometimes life-limiting illness, but the charity knows there are tens of thousands more who need a Roald Dahl Nurse. "It's often left to the parents or carers to co-ordinate and navigate an ongoing and hugely stressful healthcare journey across every day of every month, sometimes attending multiple appointments or dealing with hospital admissions across the year, and then caring for the most serious of illnesses at home," explains Louise.

"The 200 plus Roald Dahl Nurses we support within the NHS take some of that stress off their shoulders by helping navigate that journey and offering ongoing expert support which not only enriches the family's life, but which saves NHS resource by reducing admissions, visits to A&E and calls on consultants' time. We are very excited about what’s next as we establish more Nurses in post in 2026."
